A win is a win and that’s what Spain got in their opening match over the Czech Republic when they won 1-0. It took a number of chances and until the 87th minute for Spain to claim the 3 points. A total of 19 shots on goal really should have been more for Spain but that first up win should lead into more chances taken starting here against Turkey. This looks too big a task for Turkey though after their 1-0 loss to Croatia in their first match. It’s not to say Turkey are a bad side but Spain have the depth of talent and should improve on their first match to secure qualification to the next stage.

Portugal ($1.8) versus Austria ($4.75), Draw ($3.5)

A frustrated Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw against Iceland in their first match and they need a win here in order to give themselves the best chance of progressing to the next stage. Ronaldo was particularly frustrated after that game and that may well fire him up even more to carry this team to a win here. Their opponents Austria were beaten 2-0 by Hungary in their opening game and whilst they need to respond here I’m not sure they will have enough to do so. Portugal still have a lot of improvement in them and whilst it’s questionable how far they can go in this tournament they have the talent to win this one. Both sides need the win and whilst Portugal won’t be shy in attack I don’t think Austria will be either so it comes down to which side is more potent and for me that is Portugal with a frustrated and driven Ronaldo at the front.

Goal

As an Australian growing up AFL was always my no.1 sport especially given I was lucky enough to grow up a few blocks from Carlton’s home ground, Princes Park, where I was lucky enough to attend many games. That’s where my passion for sport began but it was until the early 2000’s when I discovered a real passion for football with the Socceroos 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay accelerating my football journey. From there I began to follow the Premier League and haven’t looked back since. These days I’m a massive Tottenham fan where I’ve enjoyed many sleepless nights religiously watching them without missing a game despite many roller coaster feelings. There’s just something magical and glamorous when you watch the EPL and knowing the Profits owners Drew and Euan through studies, I’m now lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts on each game each week of the season.
