MLB Week 22 Preview & Bets

Welcome to another preview of a few games we like for your weekend of MLB action. Huge series happening this weekend with the A’s facing off against the Angels. LA lost their best pitcher this week in Richards and his season is done. A’s have since been over taken in the AL west and will need some wins in this series. Baltimore who have been red hot were also dealt a serious injury with Machado being ruled out for the season. However it’s looking increasingly harder by the day for any team in the AL East to catch them.  Just a few games that I’m keen on tomorrow in what looks like a tough day.

Sunday  24th

Best Bet

Mariners at $1.92

Next Best

Jays -1.5 at $2.59

Next Next Best

Marlins at $1.97

Los Angeles Angels vs Oakland A’s  (11am AEST)

Angels ($2.40)  – Wilson

A’s ($1.60) – Lester

Over/Under  –  Over 7.0 ($1.80) Under 7.0 ($2.05)

Prediction

A’s. Since making the move west Lester has put up some solid numbers. 13-8 on the season with an ERA of 2.58. 3-1 in the 4 games started in Oakland he has gone the full 9 innings twice. Veteran A’s pitcher Wilson has been literally hit and miss all season. Inconsistent, a record of 10-8 (more to do with the run support he has) and an ERA of 4.59 he has not been at his best this year. His record is ok against the A’s in recent years though. In such an important set of games, Oakland will want to win the one with the ace on the mound. Runs have been on the decrease from the A’s since the Cespedes/Lester trade so that has to be a concern heading into the business end of the season.  However they are still the MLB’s top in terms of runs scored. 6 out of the 9 games between the 2 teams have gone over the 7.0 run line. That would be the suggested play as the price on the A’s is a little short for me and too risky at a -1.5 line. With plenty of big hitters in the game, odds are we will see a few runs.

Suggested Bet

Over 7.0 runs at $1.80

Seattle Mariners vs Boston Red Sox  (3am AEST)

Mariners ($1.92)  – Young

Red Sox ($1.92) – Workman

Over/Under  –  Over 8.5 ($1.99) Under 8.5 ($1.86)

Prediction

Mariners. After somehow winning the opening game with a 5 run 9th inning the Mariners need to keep a steady flow of wins coming in to stay in that wild card spot. Mariners have the best runs against record in the MLB, in part due to their home field but also the solid pitching they have been getting. The not so young, Young has a record of 12-6 with an ERA of 3.07on the season. However away from home his ERA sits at 3.93. Workman, who is still getting the hang of big league pitching is at 1-7 with an ERA of 4.26. The Red Sox only winning 1 game in his last 10 appearances, with a relief showing thrown in amongst those games. Feel the price available on the Mariners is very generous.

Suggested Bet

Mariners at $1.92

Other Suggested Bets

Tampa Bay Rays vs Toronto Blue Jays (3am AEST)

The Blue Jays are nowhere near the team that we loved early in the season, covering the -1.5 line game in game out. However the price on the -1.5 on this game for the Jays at $2.59 is juicy. When they win, they tend to win well. Solid pitcher in Buehrle and at home with some big hitters. Yes the Rays are playing great baseball at the moment and there may be runs on both sides. Line set at 8.5 so runs are expected. Value for me though is that -1.5 line on the Jays at $2.59

Miami Marlins vs Colorado Rockies (10am AEST)

Marlins are playing good baseball at the moment as they still keep in touch of a wild card spot in the NL,  while the Rockies are an NL worst 50-76. With a huge win on Saturday highlighted by a 9th inning grand slam, the price available on the Marlins is pretty good. Coors field being such a hitters park, I tend to feel each and every game there can go either way. Marlins would have the ever so slight edge in the pitching matchup so the price at almost evens will do me fine. Miami at $1.97
