Welcome back to a quick preview of a few MLB games. After a busy weekend and some time off the baseball plays we were back with a winning day on Monday and hoping the new slate of games can continue the trend. What an end to the Sunday Night game (Monday AEST) with the Yankees securing the series sweep of the Cubbies at Wrigley Field in 18 innings. I have been so impressed with the Yankees so far, I had my doubt on their starting pitching but that’s been good and the runs just keep coming. I won’t jump the gun just yet but they do look legit. Anyways more on them below.
Tuesday 9th
Best Bet – Over 8.5 Runs Yankees/Reds $1.85 (2u)
Other Bets – Mets/Cardinals $2.75 (0.5u)
Cincinnati Reds vs New York Yankees (9.10am AEST)
Reds ($2.30) – Davis (1-1, 7.36 ERA)
Yankees ($1.65) – Tanaka (4-1, 4.46 ERA)
Another preview, another Tanaka start. He wasn’t his sharpest last time out but he still got the Win. He is 1-1 with a 5.40 road ERA over 3 starts. The Reds will throw Rookie Davis on the mound who has not had a great start to his career. He has been hit hard in 3 of his 4 outings and doesn’t seem to be locating his pitches well with a 2.12 WHIP. This Yankees line up has runs in them always with Judge, Gardner and Castro all in fine form. Only issue will be if many players have a rest after the 18 inning marathon. The Reds bats are pretty good themselves with Votto, Duvall and even the slightly built Billy Hamilton all in nice form. No doubt the Reds should give up a few runs and Tanaka’s road work has questions. Great American Ball Park is known for the ease at which ball fly over the fences. That total is tasty at 8.5. Take the overs. The first 2 Unit play for the season, only concern as mentiond being if a few key Yankees players get rested.
Suggested Bet – Over 8.5 Runs $1.85
Miami Marlins vs St Louis Cardinals (12.10pm AEST)
Marlins ($2.14) – Conley (2-2, 6.12 ERA)
Cardinals ($1.74) – Martinez (1-3, 3.75 ERA)
Adam Conley has yet to really live up to the hype that has surrounded him, and 2017 looked like it could be his breakout season. He hasn’t though, in fact he has been struggling . His last home start he gave up 9 runs in just over an inning, that won’t happen again but there is little to take from his starts that give confidence. A .306 BAA over 3 starts at home giving up 13 runs over only 8 innings. Now the St Louis cardinals have been on a nice little winning streak amongst all these injuries. With Kolten Wong back a top the line up and a heating up Matt Carpenter there seems to be some consistency now. Back over .500 they have been impressive over the last week. Carlos Martinez gets the start for St Louis and after starting the season slowly his last 2 starts have been what I expect from him. Giving up only 3 runs over 13 innings. I like him to continue this form and the price may seem a tad low but it’s about right.
Suggested Bet – Cardinals $1.74
Other Games
New York Mets vs San Francisco Giants
Nothing seems to be going right for either of these teams, with injuries and some really odd performances. I have to take the Mets with deGrom who looks to be coming into some form pitching against a struggling Matt Moore. You never know what you get with the Mets bats. It’s 10 runs or none. Hoping for the former. Luck isn’t with the Giants at the moment, even had their team bus break down overnight.
All Prices Quoted via Crown Bet at time of writing.
Hopefully your thoughts on the games match up with mine. As always these are only a select few games I was interested in, feel free to share your opinions on any games at @MLB_TheProfits on Twitter. Happy Punting.
