Welcome back to a preview of some MLB action to this time start your week. It’s been a rough last few days but the Mets gave us some light on Monday. The Trade deadline has passed and now we see what teams are really keen to compete and what teams have thrown in the towel. Detroit for me a huge disappointment this year have clearly given up. The Astros have found themselves years ahead of where they thought they would be and are really going for it, with the additions of Gomez and Kazmir. Toronto, even being 9 games behind at one stage decided this was, adding Tulowitzki, and the awesome arm of David Price. All teams there abouts have got a little bit stronger, going to be a fun last 2 months of the regular season. On to tomorrow games, and what I feel contains some of the most confident plays i’ve had all season.
Best Bet – Blue Jays -1.5 $2.01
Next Best – Nationals at $1.72
Best Multi – Mets/Jays at $2.77
Best Totals Line – Indians/Angels o6.5 $1.92
Minnesota Twins vs Toronto Blue Jays (3.05am AEST)
Twins ($2.79) – Santana (2-1, 3.78)
Blue Jays ($1.47) – Price (9-4, 2.53)
Prediction
Blue Jays. So the best offense in the MLB picks up one of the best arms, they mean business Toronto. The addition of David Price has made the Jays a huge deal, is it too late though ? They are 6 games behind division leaders the Yankees, but they do have to play them 13 more times this year and winning those games will see them top the AL East. Price went 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA against his old division rivals the Twins so he knows what he is facing. Ervin Santana has made only 5 starts this season and in his last outing go shelled against the Pirates giving up 6 runs in over 5 innings. Jays have the scariest lineup in the MLB and I for one hope they make the postseason. I get the feeling the bats light up for David Price’s debut. Take the line, and take it well.
Suggested Bet
Jays -1.5 at $2.01
Arizona Diamondbacks vs Washington National (9.05am AEST)
D-Backs ($2.19) – Godley (2-0, 2.25)
Nationals ($1.71) – Fister (4-6, 4.39)
Prediction
Nationals. The Nats need to bounce back after the last series with division rivals the Mets. That once comfortable division lead has all but gone and I feel a home stand against an average team is just the remedy. No bones about it and forget current seasons stats, Fister is a way better pitcher then Godley. Foster has not produced how we all thought he would, 2-2 at home with a 3.80 ERA isn’t too bad, and the Nats are starting to get bodies back. Zack Godley has done well in his limited MLB starts but those 2 starts where against the poor hitting Brewers and Mariners. Rendon is back for the Nats and so is Werth. They have the power now as they head towards October. They should sweep they D-Backs and they need too, so take this $1.71 as it’s a gift.
Suggested Bet
Nationals at $1.71
Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates (9.05am AEST)
Cubs ($2.15) – Lester (6-8, 3.26)
Pirates ($1.74) – Liriano (7-6, 2.92)
Prediction
Pirates. With the injury to AJ Burnett, it’s time for Liriano to step up. No better rival to do it against then the Cubs (maybe Cardinals). The Pirates have been pretty consistent of late and they have won the last 6 of Liriano’s starts. In his only start against the Cubs this season he was not very good but that was on the road. While he hasn’t been great at home his last few seasons against the Cubs he has been phenomenal going 4-2 with a 2.30 ERA over 9 starts. Yes the Cubs have some great young players however this seems like a season too early. Lester has done his best but he at times has not been supported by an inconsistent batting lineup, striking out way to many times. That’s the youth of the team showing and this season it’s a hinderance. In 8 starts on the road Lester is 2-2 with a solid ERA of 3.24. He did get the win against the Pirates early this season but he did get hit and was lucky to escape with minimal damage. The Pirates best hitters tend to do well against lefties and I feel they get this done in what is likely to be a close game.
Suggested Bet
Pirates at $1.74
New York Mets vs Miami Marlins (9.05am AEST)
Mets ($1.89) – Colon (9-10, 4.95)
Marlins ($1.95) – Koehler (8-7, 3.38)
Prediction
Mets. Coming off some nice wins against division rivals the Nationals, New York will be looking to take its form into a road trip and maintain the challenge atop of the NL East. With the addition of some bats the Mets look a real danger, and personally I feel If they make the postseason they likely go a fair way into it. Can still get them at $26 to win the World Series. Can make a nice book and worth at small play when added with a few others as I posted on my twitter account earlier. The Veteran Bartolo Colon has probably been the Mets worst pitcher of late with the Mets losing his last 7 starts. Mind you that was with poor run support. While Koehler has put up solid numbers at home I feel the Marlins really lack the run support with the injured Stanton. Mets are riding high and are hitting really well. That’s with the newly added Cespedes yet to get going. Mets win and I sense a nothing winning streak.
Suggested Bet
Mets at $1.89
