MLB Sunday 9 August 2015

Welcome back to a preview of some MLB action to close out your weekend, which has been full of plenty of sport, home and abroad. There isn’t much around that stands out so it definitely is one of the quiet days for the MLB plays. I have found a few games about while trying to pick teams that are still relevant in the post season picture. This weekend did have some pretty key series with playoff implications. The Yankees and Jays square off to fight for the top of the AL east, they still have over 10 games against each other left this season, and you have to feel the outcome of that sorts out the division. There is also some NL West vs NL Central series with the Dodgers visiting Pittsburgh and the Giants heading to Wrigley Field to face off against the hot Cubbies. Both of these series also with post season implications. It was a great week profits wise and hopefully we can continue that here. Our most confident bet of the 2015 season got up with the hot Jays covering the line as they tend to do when they win. Let’s see if it continues.

Sunday 9th

Best Bet –  Angels -1.5 at $2.47
Next Best – Pirates at $1.75
Best Totals Line – o7.5 Twins/Indians at $1.90

Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees (3.05am AEST)

Blue Jays ($1.67) – Price (10-4, 2.45)
Yankees ($2.27)  –  Nova (4-3, 3.10)

Prediction

Blue Jays.  A huge series which gives the Jays a chance to gain up ground on the division leading Yankees.  After winning the opening game in extra innings, Toronto throw ace David Price on the mound to face off against Ivan Nova. The Yankees pitcher has been pretty solid since returning from  surgery although he has been getting his pitch counts rather high and not striking out as often as he use to. All eyes however will be on David Price, who was stellar in his first start as a Blue Jay. He got shelled in April going only 2 innings giving up 8 runs against the Yankees. One of the worst outings of his career. I don’t see a repeat of that, and the Jays are looking to win their 7th in a row, and have been red hot since the additions of Troy Tulowitzki, Ben Revere and Price. While I tend to avoid Yankees games I think i’d have to side with the Jays while they are hot.

Suggested Bet

Jays at $1.67

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Pittsburgh Pirates (6.05am AEST)

Dodgers ($2.12) – Latos (4-7, 4.29)
Pirates ($1.75)  –  Liriano (7-6, 2.92)

Prediction

Pirates. Making his first road start for the Dodgers, Matt Latos the former Red is familiar with old division rivals in Pittsburgh. In the last 3 season at PNC Park he has a 2.92 ERA over 4 starts. With a total 3.23 ERA against Pittsburgh in 9 starts. Of late Francisco Liriano tends to bring the best out of the Pirates with them winning his last 6 starts. His home record isn’t great but after a rough start to the season, post all star break he has been much better. The hope will be that he can get close to going 7 innings. He was pretty good against the Dodgers last season going 2-0, with a 0.71 ERA over 2 starts. I get the sense he is warming up and I like the price on offer today. With Pittsburgh’s bats hitting well of late and Latos not having his best season, I’ll side with the Bucs.

Suggested Bet

Pirates at $1.75

Minnesota Twins vs Cleveland Indians (9.10am AEST)

Twins ($2.27) – Santana (2-2, 3.89)
Indians ($1.67)  –  Bauer (8-8, 3.98)

Prediction

Twins. One team still in the Wild Card race, the Twins got the win on Saturday in a high scoring affair. This one, for me looks to also be a game that should have a share of runs for both sides. Trevor Bauer has replicated the Indians poor home record going 3-5 with a 5.59 ERA at home while the Indians are a dreadful 20-33 at Progressive Field. Ervin Santana has been on and off since returning,  in his last 2 games alone giving up 9 earned runs. 5 of the 7 games between these teams has gone over the run line and that’s the way i’d bet here.

Suggested Bet

o7.5 Runs at $1.90

Baltimore Orioles vs Los Angeles Angels  (11.05am AEST)

Orioles ($2.30) – Jimenez (8-7, 4.04)
Angels ($1.65)  –  Richards (11-8, 3.46)

Prediction

Angels. After a huge slump over a week ago the Angels are back to winning ways and need to keep it that way if they want to push the Astros for the AL West, otherwise the Wild Card race may become a reality. Another team around that Wild Card race is the Baltimore Orioles, however too inconsistent they continue to hover around that .500 mark.  It won’t be too easy for the here with Ubaldo Jimenez having a terrible road record and facing off against the home strong Angels. He is 2-5 with a 5.25 ERA on his travels. Facing off against Jimenez will be the solid Garret Richards who is 7-2 with a 2.36 ERA at home. With opposing batters also hitting a woeful .178. The stats line up well and I have to take LA to win this one by a few.

Suggested Bet

Angels -1.5 at $2.47

For records. Best Bet 2 Units, Next Best 1 Unit, Multi 0.5 Units (unless stated otherwise)

Hope you all have a good week with your MLB betting. Hopefully your thoughts on the games match up with mine. As always these are only a select few games I was interested in, feel free to share your opinions on any games at @MLB_TheProfits on Twitter. Happy Punting.
