Back after an impromptu day off, The Big Dog is looking at slim pickings on Good Friday. Despite the five of today’s games not being especially interesting, there is a “Play of the Day” candidate standing out and begging to be grabbed with both hands.
New Orleans Pelicans @ Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers are only one game ahead of the ninth-placed Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference but their current stretch of schedule presents the perfect opportunity to reinforce their position as a playoff team. After competitive losses to the Raptors and Thunder, the Pacers blew by the Philadelphia 76ers 91-75 and play six of their next seven games against teams with sub-500 records. Indiana are 18-9 against teams with a losing record and should enjoy a night out, against a New Orleans Pelicans team that has won only three of their last 13 games. The Pelicans’ much-documented injury crisis has left Jrue Holiday as the team’s primary scorer… and now Holiday is also out of this game with a toe injury. Meanwhile, Paul George is one game removed from scoring 45 points (only three off his season-high) against the Thunder. He has scored 25 or more in four games during March and should be well-placed to make it five. The Big Dog thinks this better-than-even-money double is a great find.
