Yesterday was a real case of “what might have been” for The Big Dog, with a 1.5-point win, a 0.5-point loss and a 3.5-point loss on a day where every play looked like a winner and a loser, at some point. Today’s action sees another three games on the card but The Big Dog is going to focus on a single “Play of the Day” in the first match, tipping off at 9am AEST.
Oklahoma City Thunder @ Dallas Mavericks
Before the beginning of these playoffs, many experts expressed the opinion that it would not be surprising if each Western Conference Round 1 series was won by the favourite, in a sweep. The Dallas Mavericks put a stop to that possibility with an upset 85-84 Game 2 victory but the biggest story to come out of that game was the performance of Kevin Durant. The 2014 MVP had his worst shooting night as a professional, hitting only 7 of 33 shots and tying Michael Jordan for the most missed shots in a playoff game. Yes, the Thunder did lose that game and Durant was awful in the process… but he still managed to score 21 points. The Mavericks are not likely to enjoy the version of Kevin Durant that they will see tonight. Game 2 was only the fourth time all season that he shot less than 40 percent from the floor and in the games following the previous three, Durant has shot a combined 35 of 69 and averaged 33.3 points. The Big Dog is backing Durant, one of the best scorers the NBA has seen in many years, to respond in a big way.
