NBA Tips 12 January 2016

nba

After putting his feet up on Monday, The Big Dog is back for a Tuesday that only provides three games and one red-hot tip, as the best defensive unit in the NBA travel to face one of the least effective attacking teams in the league.

San Antonio Spurs @ Brooklyn Nets

Before a 123-98 victory over Milwaukee at Bradley Center, on January 4th, the Spurs had played nine consecutive away games that had come to a total of 194 points or less. This is in spite of scoring over 100 points in five of those games. There isn’t much that hasn’t already been said about the San Antonio defense. They rank first in opposition scoring (89.7) and defensive efficiency (93.6 points per 100 possessions). That’s bad news for the Brooklyn Nets, who have only managed to score 83.5 per game, during their current four-game losing streak. Aside from their recent offensive struggles, they’ve been poor at scoring overall and rank ahead of only the Philadelphia 76ers in points per game (95.7). As a combination, these teams do not move the ball at a high pace. Brooklyn average 97.4 possessions per game, while the Spurs rely on their exceptional efficiency, with 95.8 possessions per game. Unless the Nets suddenly and unexpectedly find the solution to their scoring woes, this game should continue the trend of Spurs road fixtures that fall under this line.
