With a hunger for sport and an unquenchable thirst for statistics, The Big Dog is bringing his knowledge of the NBA to The Profits. A fan of the San Antonio Spurs for the last 15 years, I embrace the death-by-numbers environment that is The Association and I’m here to guide all of you to a land of riches, one action-packed day at a time!

The Big Dog leaves no stone un-turned and no market untouched, in the daily search for value and profit. Just like John West, I accept only the best, while providing a full and comprehensive dose of reasoning behind every one of Big Dog’s best bets. Whether it’s Head-2-Head, Line, Game Total, Margin or even a Daily Special, I’ve got you covered. Daily selections will be posted by 7AM on most days and a summary of the week’s performance will be provided on Sundaynights, all for your punting pleasure.

In a tricky day to start the month of December, with five teams playing their second game in two nights and five road teams with Away records of .500 or better, there is only one game that stands out for The Big Dog.

Boston Celtics ($2.51) vs Miami Heat ($1.56)
11.30AM AEST

The Miami Heat have quietly started the season as one of the NBA’s most reliable teams, at home, where they have won eight of ten, conceding 100 points only twice. Today they play host to the Boston Celtics, who have struggled on the road in recent times, losing their last three by an average margin of almost 18. Despite the Heat missing one of their best perimeter defenders in Luol Deng, who is out with a hamstring injury, their success at home has been built on stifling defensive pressure. Lead by centre Hassan Whiteside, Miami boast the 2nd best defence in the NBA and give up only 91.7 points per game. The same cannot be said for the Celtics, during their road skid. After at one point having the 4th best defence in the league, Boston have leaked an average of 114 points in losses to Brooklyn (111-101), Atlanta (121-97) and Orlando (110-91). With the Heat rested and appearing to hold a significant advantage in the front-court, it’s hard to see Boston turning things around on the second leg of a back-to-back and the line of (-3) to Miami looks way too skinny.
