After a difficult day at York for GYTO with Saddler’s Rock hugely disappointing, and Camborne not maximising potential, HOYAM winning the Listed Julia Graves Roses Stakes came as a huge relief. Michael Bell’s 2-yo was given a typically confident ride by Jamie Spencer. With a furlong to go the 3/1 shot seemingly had nowhere to go with a wall of horses in front. The favourite and well-supported Fire Eyes kicked for home going two lengths clear. Spencer managed to switch Hoyam wide and she thundered home to win in the end, readily.
