With the marathon handicap Cesarewitch, the Dubai Challenge Stakes and the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes, Saturday really is a day full of mouthwatering renewals. None more so than the Group One Middle Park Stakes where Reckless Abandon and Moohaajim go head-to-head once more. The two market principals have met before in the Darley Prix Morny in Deauville, France, where Reckless Abandon came out a three-quarter-length success over George Vancouver. Marco Botti’s two-year-old finished a close two-and-a-quarter-length fifth on his first time in Group company having won his maiden well at Ascot. There will be many punters on his side after his impressive victory in the Group Two Mill Reef Stakes from Master Of War at Newbury. Reckless Abandon, however, remains an exciting type and Clive Cox still believes he could be something very special. He is generally a 15/8 favourite for Saturday’s Group One clash with Moohaajim an 11/4 second favourite to turn the tide. The frustrating Cristofor Colombo is an 11/2 shot for Joseph O’Brien, with the unknown Kevin Ryan quantity Blaine potentially overpriced at 10′s. Gale Force Ten, who in our opinion, continues to be raced at inadequate distances, is thrown in at 10/1. With Richard Hannon staking some sort of claim in Master Of War who would have to run above his best to take this. Others include Parliament Square under Seamie Heffernan at 12/1, who was well-beat at Doncaster latest. Heavy Metal at 25/1 for Mark Johnston, having also disappointed latest at Newbury. Hototo also 25′s and Wexford Opera at 33/1 complete the field. Reckless Abandon in our opinion, should possess too much class for this field and 15/8 looks a fair price with the also-improving Moohaajim, the chief protagonist.
