Fontein Ruby: Group class horse. Proven at this distance in the past and enjoys the track, she has done it on wet and dry tracks so no issue here today. Maps to sit outside the favourite and have every chance if good enough. Key for mine is two first up runs for 0 wins.
Aflett Esprit: Won first up last prep and then beaten on a soft track at Moonee Valley with no real excuse for mine. Then won 3 in a row including a group race. Have to respect her class, but i’d be looking to bet around on the track today.
Lucky Raquie: Best run last prep was a win on a Good 4 track. Anything wetter and she really didn’t seem to handle it. Looking for dry for mine.
Sabatini: Strong maiden win last prep on a wet track at Bendigo and then backed it up on a good track to run down Royal Snitzel in sensational fashion. Next 3 runs weren’t as impressive, but still went close in group company running a solid third at Caulfield over 1600m in 3F-GP1 company. Main chance today.
Royal Snitzel: She was pushed forward from a tricky barrier first start at a course that turned out to be a death trap for leaders… and she won very impressively considering the early work required. Won on rain affected track last prep twice including in 2YO company at course and similar distance. Looks as only natural leader and rates to win.
Thinking of You: Showed strong progression last prep but outmatched in 3F-Gp1 company. Did win really well at course over 1400m… probably wants further and dryer.
Boundary: Going fine this prep and won last start in 3FB-70 class. Much much harder here.
Comments: With the rain coming overnight, it’s impossible to look outside of Royal Snitzel. Smith can control the pace out the front and let her go whenever he feels fit knowing she appreciates the rain affected track.
